Floor Work & Supporting Acrobatics - Berlin (June 24th to 26th, 2022)

This workshop consists of two main topics: Floorwork and Supporting Acrobatics .

The workshop will be led by Joseph Bartz and Jonathan Schmid.

The two topics will be combined in the workshop to provide a comprehensive understanding of how principles and exercises from the floor support acrobatics and vice versa. For the sake of clarity, however, the topics are presented separately below.

Floorwork

This part of the workshop is about achieving freedom of movement close to the ground. Joseph divides movement on the floor into three levels: four-legged level, sitting level, lying level.
Each level stands for its own movement worlds, which have a different effect on our physique. From individual movements we lead to movement sequences and finally to free movement on the floor. The focus is on creating a movement repertoire and understanding to enable free movement.

Floorwork creates strength, relaxation, balance and mobility. It can be an important part of overall movement training. In our culture, moving close to the ground is very underdeveloped. Many people have trouble even getting to the ground. But the freedom on the ground stands for quality of life.

The workshop includes:
- Repertoire in the three movement worlds
- Strength, balance, softness and mobility
- Principles of movement
- Connect movements
- Create sequences and flows
- Go into improvisation and freedom

In this workshop we will introduce you to a world with thousands of movements and countless possibilities.

Supporting Acrobatics

This part of the workshop deals with the integration of acrobatics. Acrobatic elements can bring a whole new level of creativity, exploration and growth to a practice. Jonathan divides acrobatics into different substyles: hand-down acrobatics, bridge and QDR acrobatics, roll and fall acrobatics, and aerial acrobatics.

Each style uses and trains different qualities such as mobility, strength, explosiveness, sense of air, spatial orientation, softness and lightness.

In general, acrobatic movements train a high level of coordinative and conditional skills. In addition, it can serve as a tool to dissolve mental blocks and certain fears. I've learned that the individual approach is more important than the movement itself. Many fears in this area are related to confidence in one's physical abilities or a general lack of understanding of the movement.

This workshop is therefore intended to provide a generally meaningful approach to complex movement patterns. We will look at how the participant can train their own eye and understanding: What is important to perform the XY movement, what is required? And how can I break this element down and build it in a way that makes sense to me? What useful exercises are there to train for the specific requirements?

After that, acrobatic movements will no longer seem unattainable, but will provide a clear path to practice.

In order not to make it too confusing and overwhelming, this workshop focuses on what is known as "hands-down acrobatics". This refers to movements in which you use your hands as support points around which you move your center of gravity. A lot of it is wheel based, which is something of a door opener into this world of acrobatics.

This workshop includes:
- Understand acrobatics
- Principles of weight shifting and commuting
- Prepare & build Archings
- Concepts for dealing with fear
- Technical integration
- Useful ground integrations: Pivots & Diving
- Open form: discover connections

No special acrobatic or dancing skills are required, nor does the participant need to be particularly agile or excessively strong. Some experience with the overhead stand (basic handstand exercises or similar) is an advantage, but not a requirement.
